See that justice is done. Defend widows and orphans and help those in need.  Isaiah 1:17

What is Be A HERO?
Be A HERO is an international charity working to raise up an Army of Heroes for an urgent global crisis – endangered children. We believe that everyone has a dream of doing something significant with his or her life. We connect everyday, ordinary people with opportunities to change the world, in small ways, and in large ways - one child at a time.

Be A HERO is a not-for-profit organisation with a mandate to educate, inspire, equip and facilitate people of all ages to “Be A HERO” to the 1.2 billion children at risk due to poverty, homelessness, child labour, slavery, sexual exploitation, aids and plagues, war and religious persecution.

Who Can Be A HERO?
We want to enlist everyone to the mission of mercy and social justice – caring for children suffering as a result of poverty, child labour, slavery, homelessness, sexual exploitation, aids and plagues, and war.

As Mother Theresa said, "We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop."

Be A HERO representatives worldwide present the plight of children at risk to hundreds of audiences, large and small, every year, supported by our offices in Canada, USA, Australia, and the Philippines.

Be A HERO provides compassionate people with step-by-step directions on

  • how to gather those in their sphere of influence and, together,
  • do something life-saving and life-transforming! Today, many ‘heroes’ all around the world are making a significant difference in the lives of those in crisis by a myriad of positive contributions.  Be A Hero will re-ignite the latent desire within every human being to "Be a Hero" in the lives of those who are less fortunate, and create a continuing movement of volunteerism on behalf of those who are dear to the heart of God - the poorest of the poor

How We Work
In partnership with proven, seasoned organisations we fight to save dying children by helping to:-

  • build infrastructure (clean water supply, water treatment facilities, vocational training facilities, medical clinics, children’s homes, schools);
  • sponsor children;
  • develop micro-enterprises and vocational training programs (crop growing, sewing, metal and wood work); advocacy (speaking up for the children);
  • prayer;
  • arrange “Hero Holidays” for people to see first-hand the desperate situation that many of our world’s children live in, and to help at a project;
  • speak up for the children through our “circles”, various campaigns, the way we “spend” our resources (products, time, money) so that we don’t harm children and other programs like Operation:  Educate A Child;
  • HERO Events and fund-raising to facilitate development in communities and awareness of the issues and situations that 75% of the world’s children face every day.

Be A HERO was conceived to meet the need for a strategy to connect thousands of people who have the ability to help children at risk to the ground-level organisations who are actually doing the work – running children’s homes and schools, rescuing children from slavery, feeding the poor, running vocational training programs.  Many times, people have a desire to do something to help needy children, but have no idea how to go about it.

Cambodia Empowering Be A HERO 1

Be A HERO does not, of itself, build the buildings, run the programs and businesses.  We partner with organisations that: are seasoned and proven; are experienced and efficient; have a close personal relationship with us, and are good stewards of the finances.  Our function is to research and examine organisations and projects to make sure they meet our standards before we promote their projects.  We then “match” interested ‘heroes’ with a project that fits their vision of what they would like to do to save 'children at risk'.

Why We Should Be A HERO

Homeless Be A HERO"Stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.  Ensure justice for those being crushed" Proverbs 31:8

Because we can - it is an amazing privilege.

We who are blessed with resources and abilities to do something about children at risk must become like Job who said “I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist him. I was a father to the needy; I took up the case of the stranger” Job 29:12, 16.

Nobel prizewinner, Gabriella Mistral, put it this way: “We are guilty of many errors and many faults, but our worst is abandoning the children, neglecting the fountain of life. Many of the things we need can wait. The child cannot. Right now is the time his bones are being formed, his blood is being made, and his senses are being developed. To him we cannot answer, ‘Tomorrow’. His name is ‘Today’.

It’s time to Be A Hero to the millions of helpless children who are homeless, exploited, and abandoned.
