See that justice is done. Defend widows and orphans and help those in need.Isaiah 1:17
What is Be A HERO? Be A HERO is an international charity working to raise up an Army of Heroes for an urgent global crisis – endangered children. We believe that everyone has a dream of doing something significant with his or her life. We connect everyday, ordinary people with opportunities to change the world, in small ways, and in large ways - one child at a time.
Be A HERO is a not-for-profit organisation with a mandate to educate, inspire, equip and facilitate people of all ages to “Be A HERO” to the 1.2 billion children at risk due to poverty, homelessness, child labour, slavery, sexual exploitation, aids and plagues, war and religious persecution.
Who Can Be A HERO? We want to enlist everyone to the mission of mercy and social justice – caring for children suffering as a result of poverty, child labour, slavery, homelessness, sexual exploitation, aids and plagues, and war.
As Mother Theresa said, "We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop."
Be A HERO representatives worldwide present the plight of children at risk to hundreds of audiences, large and small, every year, supported by our offices in Canada, USA, Australia, and the Philippines.
Be A HERO provides compassionate people with step-by-step directions on
how to gather those in their sphere of influence and, together,
do something life-saving and life-transforming! Today, many ‘heroes’ all around the world are making a significant difference in the lives of those in crisis by a myriad of positive contributions. Be A Hero will re-ignite the latent desire within every human being to "Be a Hero" in the lives of those who are less fortunate, and create a continuing movement of volunteerism on behalf of those who are dear to the heart of God - the poorest of the poor
From its inception in late 2003 to Dec 2011, BE A HERO has raised and sent out over $8,687,000 USD for building and operating Children’s Homes; Community Centers; refugee housing; vocational, primary and secondary schools; medical clinics; feeding programs; mercy missions, and other projects benefiting children at risk, widows, and refugees.
The 100% Model was set up in response to one of the main obstacles for donors – the percentage of a donation that is retained for administration. Be A HERO (North America) makes it simple – 100% of the funds donated for a project are sent directly to the project, and not one dollar is held back for administration or overhead.
David and Fiona Crawford founded Be A HERO Australia in January, 2006 after hearing Wesley Campbell talk about the plight of children around the world.

Be A HERO’s Field Partners are those we have had close, long-term, personal relationships with; those who have proven to be experienced, efficient and financially responsible. In most cases, our Field Partners have been working for many years in their location, caring for orphans, refugees, the poor, and other marginalized people. They are the experts on the ground, providing the daily care and love to those around them. Be A HERO assists our Field Partners by raising funds for their project; providing administrative support; and liaison with donors and sponsors.
A “project” is what we call a specific planned undertaking, usually a capital-cost building or venture, such as construction of a children’s home, school, medical clinic, or water system.
Our projects are run by our Field Partners - proven, seasoned leaders, getting the job done in their community for their children.
How do you ensure that the money sent for a project gets spent on that project?
We have signed legal agreements and stringent reporting and accounting procedures in place to ensure compliance and satisfactory completion. The funds are not sent all at once, but in instalments. Once we have received the required receipts, accounting, and photos of one stage, we then advance the funds for the next stage. We also send North American Be A HERO staff or Be A HERO representatives to visit each project site.
Be A HERO is an international team of people working together to be a voice for children who don't have one and to gather an Army of HEROES to transform those children's lives.

Be A HERO’s inspiration and values are built upon the Christian belief of the one true God and His Hero Son, Jesus Christ. Based on the testament of the Bible we believe that all human life has value, and that the two highest moral imperatives are:-
1) to love God; and
2) to love your neighbour as yourself, as taught by Jesus in His famous illustration of the good Samaritan. (Luke 10:25-37).
